Schoology Self-Paced Course

Burlington School District

In April of 2021, Burlington School District decided to change Learning Management Systems for the beginning of the 2021-22 school year. I established a pilot course that began in May, taking a group of 24 teachers from 7 different schools and programs in the district through initial training, debugging and troubleshooting. Since it was my intention to develop a self-paced introduction to be offered to adult learners over the summer, a colleague and I co-authored a course in Schoology to teach and model best practices. We built the framework for this course while conducting the pilot.

Each unit contains screenshot videos, examples, written directions and an assessment. Students are also encourged and enabled to create their first "sandbox" course in the LMS to practice the techniques they are learning as they are learning.

We compiled existing materials from Schoology and Powerschool, which were scant, and created our own to supplement as needed. This course (with modifications) is still used for new users and has been taken by over 500 participants. We have also developed following courses for more advanced methods and a separate course for school leaders.
