School Development Institute

Burlington High School

Every summer, Burlington High School conducts a week-long School Development Institute for teachers, staff and administrators to do a "deep dive" into school improvement. In summer 2022, I conducted two sessions. One session was in June and was a collaborative effort involving teachers and students working together on improving school-wide systems for the upcoming year. 

The session below was in August. It resulted in an ongoing project that puts teachers from different subject areas into cohorts for purposes of collaborative planning, feedback and peer-led Instructional Rounds. The project has grown to over 30 teachers meeting weekly in these small groups. The system, the framework and the documents below were truly collaborative in that everyone had a hand in making decisions, designing, creating and implementing. The true power in this is the motto, "Guests are Learners. Hosts drive the Visit."
